Should a dentist clean you so that you bleed?

I started going to a dentist and found that she's pretty harsh, making me bleed. But I have very clean teeth & haven't had a cavity for 16 years. Do I still need to be cleaned so harshly that I bleed? She also flosses very harshly and is expensive.
