Is the 1990 Hamlet comprehensible for those that haven't read the play?

I read the play and would like to rent the 1990 Hamlet from Netflix. However, no one in my family is familiar with the story. Only my sister has read Shakespeare before. Would they be able to follow the story and dialogue?
